Howdy, I'm Eli Chen

Computer Engineering student at Texas A&M University. Building full-stack applications, data pipelines, and AI-powered tools.

My Experience

Data Engineer Intern - Hexagon ALI

Building data visualization and analytics infrastructure for enterprise software monitoring.

  • Built interactive Microsoft Azure Workbooks to visualize cross-subscription Application Insights data for SDxApp
  • Created Microsoft Azure Data Explorer dashboard for historic data analysis across Application Insights
  • Wrote Python scripts using the Azure Monitor and Kusto SDKs to query Application Insights programmatically

Quantitative Research Intern - Shepherd Ventures

Part-time role developing quantitative trading strategies and risk analysis tools.

  • Stress-tested strategies across 14 historical market crash events and simulated shocks
  • Built Python pipelines to cluster equities (K-Means) by a proprietary crash-sensitivity metric
  • Generated a 21-stock portfolio with 32.7% protection against the 2020 crash via DBI-optimized K-Means on the S&P 100

Software Engineer Intern - Suntop Technology

Developed data analysis tools and machine learning models for industrial applications.

  • Utilized PyQt5 and Matplotlib to develop a 2D/3D comprehensive data analysis tool replacing Excel
  • Built a LiteRT (TFLite) model to predict smoke composition with 95% accuracy and sub-millisecond prediction time

Research Assistant - Texas A&M Innovation Lab

Development of Intelligent Geospatial Digital Twin for storm prediction.

  • Created a dataset for machine learning models to predict upcoming storms
  • Extracted over 1 TB of historical weather data from various online sources using APIs and Python web scraping
  • Visualized and processed multidimensional, time-series datasets across multiple channels

About Me

Eli Chen

Hi, I'm Ziyang (Eli) Chen

I'm a Computer Engineering student at Texas A&M University, graduating in May 2026. I'm passionate about building software that solves real problems, whether that's a full-stack web application, a data pipeline, or an AI-powered tool.

My journey in tech has taken me through internships at Hexagon (data engineering), Shepherd Ventures (quantitative research), and Suntop Technology (software engineering). I've also worked as a research assistant at Texas A&M's Innovation Lab, building ML models for storm prediction.

Outside of work, I play both acoustic and electric guitar, love building and flying FPV drones, and enjoy retro gaming and gaming in general.
